PM Awas Yojana Big Update: Under the PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0, more than 63,000 poor families in Prayagraj are expected to get the benefit in the current financial year. Till now, over 63,000 people have submitted online applications for houses under the scheme. Out of these, the documents of 22,000 applicants have already been verified by the team of DUDA (District Urban Development Agency) and the Revenue Department.
According to officials, the process of releasing the first installment is almost complete. The government is likely to transfer the first installment of ₹50,000 directly to the bank accounts of the selected beneficiaries by the last week of December. This amount will help families start the construction of their own houses.
Government Housing Scheme for Poor Families
PM Awas Yojana is a major housing scheme launched by the Central Government to ensure that every poor family—whether living in rural or urban areas—has its own house. To make the scheme more effective and cover more families, the government recently launched PM Awas Yojana Urban 2.0.
The new phase (Phase 2) comes with several improvements that will help a large number of poor families get access to pucca houses. In the 100 urban wards of Prayagraj, the scheme is receiving a huge response. More than 63,000 people have already applied online, showing how important this scheme is for city residents who do not have a permanent home.
₹2.50 Lakh Provided in Three Installments
DUDA Project Officer Pratibha Srivastava shared that the documents of 22,000 applicants have been fully verified, and the eligibility list has been sent to the government for approval. Once the final approval comes, the funds will be transferred soon.
Under PM Awas Yojana Urban, a total assistance of ₹2.50 lakh is provided to each eligible beneficiary. This amount is released in three installments:
- First installment – ₹50,000 Given at the beginning to start the construction work.
- Second installment – ₹1,00,000 Released when the construction reaches the plinth level.
- Third installment – ₹50,000 Given after the roof level construction is completed.
