Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana: Govt to Cover Marriage Expenses! Check How Much You’ll Get

Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana: When a girl is to be married in India, regardless of the father’s financial status, wrangling with the expenses of the impending marriage remains one constant worry. The intensity of this worry becomes manifold amplified for fathers who are too poor to splurge in excess on the marriage. The scheme, therefore, proposes to give relief to these families. The state hopes to remain committed to this issue.

This scheme is specifically devised and proposed keeping in mind the welfare of girls belonging to the economically weaker section (EWS). One of the key features of this subsidy is to entail the assistance of the government thereby bringing down the child marriage and child-labour percentages in the state.

The Assured Figure of Assistance You can Expect

Under the Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana, each eligible woman will receive a total of ₹51,000 from the amount of support. This amount is directly given in three different parts.

The three parts are distributed as follows

₹35,000 would be disbursed as Direct Financial Assistance – this will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account to cover major expenses around marriage.

  • ₹10,000 of marriage gifts-In basic items such as Saree, Bangles, Bindis, Payal, Bichiya, utensils, and every other necessity from a bride’s inventory.
  • ₹6,000 for marriage arrangement costs, which will cover the minor expenses of the arrangement of the wedding celebrations like tentage, decoration, and basic arrangements.
  • The aim of the state government is to ensure that poor families undergo not any undue strain in preparing for a wedding.

Objective of the Scheme

The scheme has been started to provide the much-needed money and to bring about positive changes in society. Of the scheme, the government expects to-

Prevent rush marriages or early marriages

  • Promotion of the proper marriage registration
  • Strengthening the fight against the dowry
  • Spreading awareness about women rights

Simple, honorable, moral, and responsible marriage practices subtly promote change in the stages of very inflated display and a parade of wasted money and to ensure that both weddings are economical and honored.

This scheme would discourage distressing expenditures, enabling marriages to be celebrated within a safe and respectful limit.

Amount to Be Spent by the Government

Around fifty or sixty crores are supposed to be spent on this project by the Odisha Government in the next five years. The monetary assistance will be of help to poor families, particularly in those areas where marriages are generally … due to financial need or debt.

Political Factors Attached to the Scheme

In Odisha politics, women have long been seen as one of the strongest support bases for the ruling party. However, the next steps in this direction were changed in the last election when BJP gained significant support from women through its elaborate schemes such as the Subhadra Yojana. In other words, the current marriage assistance scheme in Odisha is yet another bold step to revive the position of women’s trust and improve the government’s connection with them.
